An introduction to climate change
This introductory video provides an understanding of the basic science of climate change, how local authorities can collaborate and bring about change, and what the partnership is doing to take action on climate change in Hertfordshire.
HCCSP sustainability events
The sustainability events calendar gives details of sustainability initiatives and events that can be shared on social media. This has been collated and will be updated so local stakeholders can amplify, cascade and support the content as they choose.
Hertfordshire sustainability map
As part of Hertfordshire County Council's Sustainable Hertfordshire, a sustainability map is available detailing sustainability events and projects around the county. This interactive map also allows you to to add your own activities.
Sustainability Grants
A list of sustainability grants that individuals, communities, and non-profit organisations can apply for. We'll update this list every 6 months.
Sustainability grants by district / borough
Broxbourne
- Great British Insulation Scheme
- Eligibility – those on income support, homeowners with an EPC from D to G and renters with an EDC of D to E.
- Applications – open on an ongoing basis.
- Community grants funding (Broxbourne)
- Eligibility – organisations applying must be working for a local good cause that will benefit the residents of Broxbourne.
- Applications - reopens October - December 2025.
Dacorum
- Community grants funding (Dacorum)
- Fund amount - Maximum of £4,000.
- Eligibility – informal groups, Not for Pofit and voluntary organisations, charities or CIOs, CICs or social enterprises. For environmental events.
- Applications - 3 opportunities to apply: 1 April to 1 May, 1 August to 30 September, and 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026.
- Small Grants Fund
- Fund amount - Maximum of £550.
- Eligibility - for charities, community, voluntary groups and informal groups, funding for new projects or equipment that benefits Dacorum residents.
- Applications - 3 opportunities to apply: 1 April to 1 May, 1 August to 30 September, and 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026.
- Green Community Grants
- Fund amount - £3,000 £5,000 or £10,000
- Eligibility - projects must align with one of the three themes: Energy in buildings, Sustainable Transport, Biodiversity and Nature Recovery. Grants support community projects that align with the aims of the Dacorum Climate Action Network.
- Applications - reopens in 2026.
East Herts
- Environmental sustainability grants (East Herts)
- Fund amount - £300 to £3,000.
- Eligibility - for voluntary orgs, NPOs or community groups with an agreed East Herts Councillor acting as mentor or TNP council.
- Applications - reopens September 2025
- Community Grants (East Herts)
- Fund amount - £300 to £3,000.
- Eligibility - for voluntary orgs, NPOs or community groups with an agreed East Herts Councillor acting as mentor or TNP council.
- Applications - reopens September 2025.
Hertsmere
- Climate Action Community Grant
- Fund amount - £500 available from a pool of £10,000
- Eligibility - for communities, must demonstrate climate action within Hertsmere.
- Applications - currently closed until further notice.
Hertfordshire County Council
- Environmental improvement grants
- Fund amount - maximum £3,000.
- Eligibility - for community-based organisations and private landowners/land-managers who look to enhance nature in Hertfordshire and help establish at least 1.8million trees by 2030.
- Applications - open on a financial year basis.
North Herts
- Community Grants
- Fund amount - varies by area.
- Eligibility - for independent and not for profit organisations working for the benefit of local communities in North Herts.
- Applications - open between April to June 2025 and July to September 2025.
St Albans
- St Albans Greener Together Net Zero Fund
- Fund amount - £2,000 to £20,000
- Eligibility - for NPOs, charities, CICs and community groups, SMEs working for the benefit of local communities in St Albans.
- Applications - opens September 2025 - TBC.
- Fund amount - up to £4,999.99.
- Eligibility - for voluntary and community-sector orgs, CICs and social enterprise projects which meet community needs and help reach equality, diversity and inclusion strategy priorities.
- Applications - opens April 2025 - TBC.
Stevenage
- Climate Change Community Fund
- Fund amount - £7,500 is available per ward per financial year, across the 13 wards in Stevenage, making a total of £97,500 to be allocated to support environmental initiatives across the borough.
- Eligibility - for community groups and organisations to address climate change and its effects through their own community-led projects.
- Applications - open on a rolling basis.
Three Rivers
- Three Rivers Sustainability Fund
- Fund amount - maximum £1,650.
- Eligibility - for voluntary organisations and projects that support communities in Three Rivers and help the climate crisis.
- Applications - open on a rolling basis.
Watford
- Sustainable business grants - Low Carbon Workspace Grant, Eastern New Energy Grant and Fully Funded Low Carbon Advice.
- Fund amount - £2,000 to £5,000.
- Eligibility - there are a range of sustainable business grants, varying in value and eligibility.
- Applications - varying dates.
- Watford Community Funds
- Fund amount - Maximum £2,000
- Eligibility - for community groups, voluntary orgs and not for profit social enterprises that adress Watford's changing needs around climate.
- Applications - open 14 April 2025 - TBC.
Welwyn Hatfield
- Start-up Community Grants
- Fund amount - maximum £500.
- Eligibility - for new community groups and voluntary organisations.
- Applications - open on a rolling basis.
- Annual Community Grants
- Fund amount - up to £15,000.
- Eligibility - for community groups, charities and NPOs that make a positive impact on the community and support residents of the borough, whilst contributing to one or more of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's priorities.
- Applications - reopens late 2025.
National grants
- Workplace Charging Scheme
- Fund amount - Up to £14,000 in vouchers
- Eligibility - for businesses, provides up to £14,000 in vouchers towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points on business premises.
- Applications - open on an ongoing basis.
- Countryside Stewardship Scheme
- Fund amount - depends on project.
- Eligibility - for landmanagers to protect local environment, including wildlife, woodland and flood management.
- Applications - reopens in Summer 2025.
- Low emission vehicles eligible for a plug-in grant
- Fund amount - up to £2,500 for electric vehicles on cars priced under £35,000.
- Eligibility - for EV buyers. You can get a discount on the price of brand new low-emission vehicles through a grant the government gives to vehicle dealerships and manufacturers.
- Applications - open on an ongoing basis.

Information for businesses
The Hertfordshire Growth Hub is for businesses seeking support and advice, and can provide guidance for businesses to be more sustainable and work toward net zero. The knowledge bank has resources for businesses to access, following a simple online registration.

The Government’s Business Climate Hub includes information for small and medium sized enterprises about joining the UN’s Race to Zero and practical steps that businesses can take to cut emissions.
